Application tip 3
Painting interior and exterior walls
Once you’ve prepared your surface, you need to consider the type of
paint you’re going to use:
- Do
you want a matt, soft sheen or silk finish?
- Our
advice is matt as it helps defuse surface imperfections, whereas a silk
will highlight them
- If you opt for conventional
emulsion paint, you need to work out whether you’re going to apply it
with a brush, roller or paint
pad
Pros and cons of brush, roller or paint
pad
- Brush is
the traditional method and avoids the mottle effect and splashing you
get with a roller. However, it’s slower and requires a certain amount
of skill to get the best results
- Paint pads are
also slow to use and tend to stretch the paint out resulting in a
patchy finish that requires more coats
- A medium
pile roller is your best bet with a small brush needed for edges,
corners and cutting in.
